Libya Constituent Assembly Elections

On February 20, Libyans will elect 58 of the 60 members of the Constituent Assembly. Due to the Amazigh boycott of the elections, two seats – reserved for the ethnic minority – will remain uncontested and unfilled. The Constituent Assembly is mandated to draft a new constitution for Libya. Its members will be elected from constituencies across the country, using three different ballots. It is crucial that women’s voices are heard as Libya codifies human rights in national legislation and establishes government institutions.
